What the extension processes

SpeedTeX sends the text needed for a requested edit and relevant LaTeX document context through the SpeedTeX service to an AI inference provider. The service uses that content to produce the requested edit and does not store manuscript or prompt text in the hosted database.

Accounts and sign-in

Hosted users sign in with a short-lived code sent to a verified email address. SpeedTeX stores the normalized email, verification time, hashed session credential, sign-in timing, and limited abuse-prevention data. Education pricing is based on a verified address whose domain ends in .edu.

What the hosted service records

For authentication, fulfillment, reliability, account dashboards, and fair-use accounting, the hosted service records your purchase email, Stripe checkout identifier, hashed license and device credentials, request timestamps, prompt character count and cryptographic hash, model token counts, latency, provider timing, status, and usage units. It does not store manuscript or prompt text in the hosted database.

Local diagnostics

The VS Code and Chrome extensions have optional diagnostic traces that can record exact prompts, responses, timing, validation, and outcomes on your computer. Exact content capture is off by default, can contain document text when enabled, and rotates locally. API keys and authorization values are redacted.

Payments

Stripe processes payment details. SpeedTeX does not receive or store full card numbers. Stripe provides checkout status, a transaction identifier, and customer contact details needed to fulfill and support the purchase.

Retention and security

License and usage records are kept while needed to provide lifetime access, prevent abuse, resolve support issues, and meet legal obligations. Credentials are stored as one-way hashes where practical and traffic uses HTTPS. VS Code credentials use Secret Storage; the Chrome extension stores a device credential in extension-local storage after activation.

Your choices

You may disable automatic transformations, clear stored credentials and diagnostic traces, or uninstall the extension at any time. For privacy requests, email [email protected].

Providers

The service relies on third-party infrastructure for AI inference and on Stripe for payments. Their handling of data is also governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.
